I Rode on a School Bus!

Today I had the pleasure of accompanying Skye on a field trip to Portland Stage Company‘s production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

It was her GT class and other students with whom Mr. Reinhartsen works on reading. Impressive kids. Tall, too. Skye is short. And young.

I enjoyed the bus ride. I hadn’t been on a school bus since I attended Palmer Senior High School in Palmer, Alaska back in the 80s. School buses are cool. I remember kissing Tonya Badger hundreds of times in the back of a bus when I was ten and eleven. :)

  1. What a great dad! It’s funny how they haven’t changed a bit from when I rode them in the 90’s. Have they changed any from the 80’s?

  2. @Kim – Excellent question. The seat backs are higher than I remember. It could just be my memory. There is an emergency exit in the top of the bus and about every fifth window is an emergency exit window. They also have a video camera mounted above the driver. Skye says it is to show the principle if anybody misbehaves. Those things are certainly different than when I was young(er).

The kids still slouch low in the seats with their knees against the seat back in front of them. And they still play handshake games. But I didn’t see any kissing or holding hands. So those things seem to have changed a bit, too.
