Last Saturday I went snowboarding with my friend and coworker, Alex. We went to Sunday River, a resort I had been to the week prior with another coworker, Jeff. I had been snowboarding at Cranmore the day before and was sore but feeling anxious to ride as I felt like I was improving quickly.
We picked up Alex’s spry seventy-year-old uncle Keith in Gray, Maine and the three of us drove the rest of the way to Bethel.
The day was perfect: fast lift lines, powdery trails, sunny skies and great company. Alex and Keith have been skiing for a long time. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up, but did surprisingly well. I had progressed to the point where I didn’t have to think about every edge, link, turn and switch and could pick up a fair amount of speed with confidence. Getting the rust out of my ride made going down the mountain MUCH more effortless and fun.
I think I alarmed Alex at one point when I fell coming off a whaleback and slid down the mountain for a loooong way. I was fine, but he didn’t know that.
I can’t wait to get on a mountain again. It’s snowing today. The weekend needs to hurry! Then again, Shawnee Peak has night skiing and is only 45 minutes away…
