I took Kirsten out on another day pass today. Per her request, we hiked around Mackworth Island. She never used her walker, preferring instead to hold my hand for support. Over the smoother parts of the trail, as not to over-exert her on our excursion, I pushed her in her wheelchair. She did a great job, and seemed to enjoy her ambulatory progress, as well as the sights, smells, textures, and sounds of our gorgeous state.
The Mackworth Island Trail is a wonderful 1.25 mile trail around the perimeter of Mackworth Island. It’s always a beautiful walk, with benches and swings on which to rest, as well as the girls’ favorite part: the fairy village.
On the way back to the hospital, Kirsten, Skye, and I stopped at Cold Stone Creamery for an ice cream. It was a wonderful outing, and nice to be together as a family, away from a hospital.
