A Hot Date
Apr. 30, 2009 · 2 Comments
Kirsten and I enjoyed each other and the gorgeousness of Maine on Tuesday. I received a tweet last week about Mackworth Island and planned to take Kirsten after her class. Kirsten wanted to go to the beach. So we did both.
The temperature reached an unseasonably warm 96.5 °F, which is a bit warmer than my preference.
The hike around Mackworth Island was very nice. The tourists aren’t here yet so there were only a few people and plenty of available parking. Neither of us had ever hiked the 1.25 mile perimeter trail around the island. The vistas are beautiful, of course. The center of the island is the Baxter School for the Deaf, so Kirsten said we could make as much noise as we wanted. On the east side there is a fairy village in the woods. The girls will LOVE that when we go back. Kirsten and I held hands as we walked and spent a long time relaxing on a swinging bench on the south side overlooking Portland.

A Visit To Peaks Island
Apr. 10, 2009 · 3 Comments
I love Peaks Island, Maine. It’s just a short ferry ride from Portland and small enough to easily walk or bike around. This time of year it’s also pretty quiet, which is nice. The back side is unprotected so the waves crash against the jagged rocks and toss rounded stones into the air.
Wednesday morning Kim, Mike, Kirsten and I took the short ferry ride over. The weather was brisk and graying, but we were determined to enjoy ourselves regardless. Mike and Kim talked Kirsten and I–who were very reluctant–into renting tandem bicycles. The bike shop on the island wasn’t open for the season but we were able to dig a couple bikes out of the shed and inflate the tires. It was a fantastic idea!
We ate sandwiches on the seaside and watched the surf. I took a few pictures, of course. It was a great time!!

St. Patrick’s Day 2009!
Mar. 17, 2009 · 5 Comments
I love St. Patrick’s Day. It is my favorite holiday, by far! No gluttonous meals, no gift exchanges and no god! It’s just people dressing up in crazy green outfits, lots of great (Guinness) beer, parades, and pinches. It is holiday done right!
Kirsten and I celebrated at Bull Feeney’s in Portland. They had live music, Irish dancers and bagpipers. It was awesome. The place was packed with people who were festive, lubricated and in a partying mood. The food was awesome and the beer just the way we like it: smooth, dark and creamy.
Enjoy the pictures.

Finally, A Day Together!
Nov. 10, 2008 · 8 Comments
Yesterday Kirsten “called out” so we could spend the day as a family. I’m glad she did. Our work and school schedules rarely allow for us to be together during the day. And the day was absolutely gorgeous. Fleece weather, my favorite. We brought the cameras along.
Enjoy.
Kirsten made a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs with cheese, toast, grits, bacon, orange juice and coffee. How lucky am I?!? Jenna read to us the book, “Fairly Stupid Tales”, which is hilarious, especially the way she reads it. At different parts she is quiet, loud, fast, slow, and inflects her voice where appropriate. It was great fun to listen to, and watch, her read this super silly story.

Does it get any better than this?

A Cheap Date
Nov. 06, 2008 · 4 Comments
Kirsten and I like to spend time together at least one day each week while the girls are in school and we’re both off work (Kirsten worked last night, so she was very tired).
After getting ready we headed to Starbucks where we drank coffee, read and conversed. It was a wonderful time. She is the best friend anybody could hope for. She’s funny, intelligent, fun and super hot!

I Took the Girls to Boston
Nov. 04, 2008 · 4 Comments

Skye has been asking me to take her to Boston for a while now. She loves the city. Her GT (gifted/talented) class is going in four years and she’s wonderfully excited. She said she loves Boston more than she loves Maine.
I have most of this week off work and about a bazillion Choice Privileges Points so I decided to take the girls on a mini-vacation before it gets too cold. Kirsten, unfortunately, had to work. :(
Sunday morning we drove to Boston, parked the car at Quincy Center, and took the Red Line train into Park Street Station. Skye wanted to check out the Granary Burying Grounds so we headed over there. Then we strolled around Washington Street before heading to Marriott’s Custom House (my favorite Boston building) where we would see the city from the 26th floor observation deck.

A Date at the Coast
Oct. 21, 2008 · No comments
Tuesdays are wonderful! Lately Kirsten and I have both had Tuesdays off. While the girls are in school we take advantage of our time alone and have a date. Today Kirsten wanted to go to the coast so I suggested the East Point Sanctuary at Biddeford Pool. We had a great time reading magazines and taking pictures and just enjoying the view. It was nice to be together at a place we both love.
Before heading home to meet the girls at the bus stop we stopped at Rapid Ray’s for a light lunch. It is always good.

Breakfast was pretty good, too. ;)
After voting this morning Kirsten and I went to Ferry Beach here in Saco to read, talk and just enjoy each others’ company.

What could be better than a coffee, bagel, Maine beach and Kirsten?

Kirsten studied anatomy and physiology on our date this morning.

This friendly and enterprising gull enjoyed part of my bagel and Kirsten’s veggie eggwhite flatbread sandwich.

Kirsten noticed a bit of a rainbow in the contrail, so I took a picture of it.

Kirsten is a very dedicated student.

My Birthday Celebration 2.0
Oct. 03, 2008 · No comments
Birthdays aren’t a big deal to me. This year I spent mine watching the first presidential debate and hanging out at the new Hooters in Saugus, Massachusetts.
It was nice to return home Saturday evening to one of my favorite meals and my wonderful girls. Kirsten baked macaroni and cheese from my mom’s old recipe. Yummy! She also made my favorite black forest cake. The candles were the trick kind that relight themselves after they’re blown out. Fun.
Kirsten gave me a flourescent light so I (we) can read in bed at night. Skye gave me a small Rubik’s Cube. Hayley gave me 9¢ to buy my favorite (candy) bar. They each made me a card. How cool is that? I love those girls.
Kirsten dressed extra sexy, as she does whenever I’m returning from a road trip. I appreciate that a lot!
